RAL Engineering Ltd., formed in 1990, has carried out plant assessments/optimizations and detailed designs on over 30 water and wastewater treatment plants in Ontario and overseas in the past 12 years. In 1997, the Firm was selected by the Ministry of Environment (MOE), in a province wide competition, to carry out a series of optimizations on 12 treatment plants in Ontario to reduce THMs and improve disinfection. More recently the Firm completed Engineers Report’s for 14 water treatment plants and was subsequently engaged to design necessary up-grades on several of these facilities. Five of these projects are in the City of Kawartha Lakes including the successful application to fragment the Sturgeon Point system. Nearby, the Firm provided design and contract administration on the $3.4M Lakefield Water Treatment Plant up-grade.

On August 1, 2003, Ontario Regulation 170/03, the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), came into effect. The Safe Drinking Water Act requires the owners of all public water supply systems to assess their water works and comply with these new regulations. The objectives of Ontario Regulation 170/03 are to improve the protection of drinking water by enforcing more stringent treatment, inspection and reporting requirements. RAL Engineering Ltd offers engineering services which include inspecting the water works and make recommendations to assist the facility to be compliant with the new regulation.
